{"id":294361,"date":"2023-10-20T11:24:35","date_gmt":"2023-10-20T11:24:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tellmysport.com\/?p=294361"},"modified":"2023-10-20T11:24:35","modified_gmt":"2023-10-20T11:24:35","slug":"gallas-names-four-defenders-who-are-better-than-saliba","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tellmysport.com\/soccer\/gallas-names-four-defenders-who-are-better-than-saliba\/","title":{"rendered":"Gallas names FOUR defenders who are better than Saliba"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>William Gallas names FOUR Premier League defenders who are better than William Saliba&#8230; as the Frenchman tells fans to &#8216;calm down&#8217; about the Gunners star and insists he is NOT world class<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>William Saliba is enjoying another extremely impressive season for Arsenal<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>However, former Gunners defender William Gallas insisted he is not world class<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Listen to the latest episode of Mail Sport&#8217;s podcast &#8216;It&#8217;s All Kicking Off!&#8217;\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Former France star William Gallas has played down praise received by William Saliba and named four Premier League defenders who he thinks are better than the Arsenal\u00a0man.<\/p>\n<p>Saliba has been a revelation for the Gunners ever since breaking into their team at the start of the 2022-23 campaign after spending three successive years out on loan.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He was instrumental in their title push last season as he started their first 27 matches before a back injury coincided with Mikel Arteta&#8217;s side picking up just 18 points from their final 11 games as they were ultimately pipped to the Premier League by Man City.<\/p>\n<p>However, Gallas &#8211; who played for Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham in his career and also won 84 caps for France &#8211; claimed Saliba is not yet at the top level.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Let\u2019s calm down about William Saliba!\u2019 Gallas told Lord Ping. \u2018That\u2019s a problem with the modern media, and discussion like this isn\u2019t good for the players. Some of them can\u2019t deal with that pressure.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/20\/11\/76795145-12653233-image-a-25_1697798186247.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>William Gallas played down praise received by William Saliba and insisted he is not world class<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/20\/11\/76795157-12653233-image-a-26_1697798322370.jpg\" height=\"430\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Gallas also claimed there are four better defenders than Saliba in the Premier League alone<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I like Saliba, and I think he\u2019s a really good player, but as far as I\u2019m concerned, the best defenders in the world have to play in their national teams and be a constant in their starting XI.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Saliba isn\u2019t a starter for France yet, but when he\u2019s in the line-up and he\u2019s performing as well as he does at club level, then we can discuss him being the world\u2019s best defender.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;At the moment, he could be one of the best defenders in Europe. There\u2019s a difference!\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Saliba made his debut for France in March last year and has since gone onto win 10 caps for Les Bleus.<\/p>\n<p>He was part of their World Cup squad in Qatar but played just 27 minutes as he remains a largely peripheral figure in the national team.<\/p>\n<p>And along with a need to become a regular for Didier Deschamps&#8217; side, Gallas also felt there are better defenders than him in the Premier League as he named four.<\/p>\n<p>He added:\u00a0\u2018Thiago Silva comes to mind when thinking about truly world-class defenders.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u2018He was great in the past, and he\u2019s great now, even at his age. I also like Josko Gvardiol, and he\u2019s a great example of a player who adapted to a new system straight away.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Look at how he plays now compared to how he played at RB Leipzig \u2013 the way he\u2019s adapted is unbelievable and he\u2019s a world-class defender.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Gallas continued: \u2018There\u2019s also Raphael Varane. He may not be at his best at the moment, but what he\u2019s achieved speaks for itself.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/20\/11\/76795153-12653233-image-a-27_1697798362767.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Gallas also insisted Saliba has to break into France&#8217;s team before he can be called world class<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/20\/11\/76795167-12653233-image-a-34_1697798439058.jpg\" height=\"487\" width=\"306\"><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/20\/11\/76795161-12653233-image-m-33_1697798431917.jpg\" height=\"487\" width=\"306\"><\/p>\n<p>He named Raphael Varane (left), Thiago Silva (right), Virgil van Dijk and Josko Gvardiol as four Premier League defenders who are better than Salbia<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Virgil Van Dijk is great, too, even if he\u2019s not quite been the same since his injury. He was top-class back then, but he\u2019s making some mistakes now.
