{"id":294226,"date":"2023-10-19T18:39:23","date_gmt":"2023-10-19T18:39:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tellmysport.com\/?p=294226"},"modified":"2023-10-19T18:39:23","modified_gmt":"2023-10-19T18:39:23","slug":"ramsdale-admits-he-fears-for-his-place-in-the-england-squad","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tellmysport.com\/soccer\/ramsdale-admits-he-fears-for-his-place-in-the-england-squad\/","title":{"rendered":"Ramsdale admits he fears for his place in the England squad"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Aaron Ramsdale admits he fears for his place in the England squad ahead of next summer&#8217;s Euros after losing his No 1 spot at Arsenal&#8230; and reveals the reason why his dad sent THAT tweet to Jamie Carragher<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Aaron Ramsdale has lost his spot as Arsenal&#8217;s No 1 to David Raya this season<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>The goalkeeper is now fearing for his place in England squad ahead of the Euros<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Listen to the latest episode of Mail Sport&#8217;s podcast &#8216;It&#8217;s All Kicking Off!&#8217;<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Aaron Ramsdale admits he fears for his place in the England squad after breaking his silence on the \u2018suffering\u2019 he has endured since losing his position as Arsenal No 1.<\/p>\n<p>The goalkeeper has been a fixture in the Gunners starting XI for two seasons but has now lost his place in Mikel Arteta\u2019s team to David Raya, who arrived from Brentford in the summer.<\/p>\n<p>Mail Sport revealed on September 5 that Arteta was plotting a change in goalkeeper &#8211; with the Gunners boss selecting Raya ahead of Ramsdale in his team\u2019s next game against Everton.<\/p>\n<p>Asked about whether he&#8217;s concerned about losing his place in the England squad ahead of next summer\u2019s European Championship\u00a0due to a lack of action at Arsenal, Ramsdale responded: \u2018Yes, of course, it is the first time I have found myself in this situation.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;The manager here [Gareth Southgate] is brilliant, he trusts the players he&#8217;s worked with before as we&#8217;ve seen in different types of ways &#8211; you&#8217;ll see Kalvin [Phillips] and Harry [Maguire] haven\u2019t played the most amount of minutes but when they step up for England and are given the opportunity, they perform.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/19\/11\/76747611-12648795-image-m-15_1697712247422.jpg\" height=\"430\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Aaron Ramsdale admits he fears for his place in the England squad ahead of next year&#8217;s Euros<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/19\/11\/75798767-12648795-Ramsdale_and_Raya_R_have_been_battling_it_out_for_the_top_spot_a-a-7_1697712052819.jpg\" height=\"460\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Ramsdale was Arsenal&#8217;s No 1 but has now lost his place in the side to David Raya (right)<\/p>\n<p>Your browser does not support iframes.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018So if if that&#8217;s the case for myself and I do get shown that trust to play another game if I haven&#8217;t played for my club then I will have to repay him.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018But of course, I want to get back into my club team. I want to get into my club team and be able to give the manager a headache rather than just have Jordan [Pickford] as the England number one and me fall by the wayside.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>On his relationship with Raya, the former Bournemouth keeper continued: \u2018We work professionally really well together. We push each other in training and there&#8217;s days where I come in and I&#8217;m down because of the situation and he picks me up.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018And for whatever reason there might be a day where he&#8217;s down and even though I&#8217;m suffering and hurting for not playing I have to stand up and be able to push him and make sure he&#8217;s ready for the weekend if he\u2019s picked to play.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Ramsdale\u2019s body language on Arsenal\u2019s bench has been under the microscope in recent weeks, with a particular focus on one instance when the England shot-stopper applauded Raya for a save he made in the 2-2 draw with Tottenham on September 24.<\/p>\n<p>Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher said: \u2018I thought it was like the Oscars, you know when someone loses the Oscar and they start clapping and smiling for the other person.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I was laughing when I saw that. He&#8217;s absolutely devastated with that really!\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Ramsdale\u2019s father Nick responded to Carragher on social media by posting: \u2018You are a Disgrace!! Show some class!! He obviously just had a few too many on the golf course!<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I know there&#8217;s a lot of noise but it doesn&#8217;t affect me. There are times where you&#8217;re doing the right thing, but it&#8217;s the wrong thing and if you don&#8217;t do it, it&#8217;s the wrong thing.
