Scotland were left ruing a controversial decision to rule out Scott McTominay’s free-kick as Steve Clarke’s side suffered a 2-0 defeat to Spain in Seville.<\/p>\n
McTominay thought he had given Scotland the lead in the Euro 2024 qualifier in a match where a draw would have been enough to seal their place in the tournament.<\/p>\n
The midfielder curled a superb free-kick beyond Spain goalkeeper Unai Simon from close to the byline in the second half.<\/p>\n
McTominay’s strike provoked celebrations from Scotland’s players and fans as Euro 2024 qualifier appeared to draw closer.<\/p>\n
A VAR review led to the goal being ruled out, with the decision initially thought to have been due to a foul from Jack Hendry on Simon.<\/p>\n
