{"id":293694,"date":"2023-10-09T08:28:51","date_gmt":"2023-10-09T08:28:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tellmysport.com\/?p=293694"},"modified":"2023-10-09T08:28:51","modified_gmt":"2023-10-09T08:28:51","slug":"ac-milan-sell-giroud-9-goalkeeper-jersey-after-strikers-heroics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tellmysport.com\/soccer\/ac-milan-sell-giroud-9-goalkeeper-jersey-after-strikers-heroics\/","title":{"rendered":"AC Milan sell &apos;Giroud 9&apos; goalkeeper jersey after striker&apos;s heroics"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>AC Milan produce a &#8216;Giroud 9&#8217; goalkeeper jersey for fans to buy after Olivier Giroud&#8217;s heroics against Genoa &#8211; but the shirt is already SOLD OUT<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The former Chelsea star stepped up after Maignan picked up a red card late on<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Head coach Stefano Pioli shared that another player had also offer to go in goal\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Listen to the latest episode of Mail Sport&#8217;s podcast &#8216;It&#8217;s All Kicking Off!&#8217;\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>AC Milan have produced goalkeeper jerseys bearing the name of striker Olivier Giroud after the Frenchman&#8217;s last-ditch heroics versus Genoa on Saturday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Milanese club&#8217;s No 1 Mike Maignan picked up a late red card during the San Siro clash for a foul on Caleb Ekuban in stoppage time, after the club had used up all of its substitutions.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Stefano Pioli then tapped the World Cup winner to pull on the gloves, donning Maignan&#8217;s distinctive green shirt.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The visitors threatened against 10-man Milan, with Albert Gudmundsson&#8217;s freekick nicking the bar, but it was Giroud&#8217;s quick-thinking that saw the former Chelsea star block Genoa&#8217;s final run at an equaliser.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Giroud dived at a chancing ball from George Puscas, before leaping on top of it to snuff out the scoring opportunity.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/09\/08\/76326553-12609663-image-a-1_1696837693995.jpg\" height=\"459\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Olivier Giroud denied George Puscas to snuff out a late threat from Genoa on Saturday night<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/09\/08\/76326719-12609663-image-m-5_1696837710781.jpg\" height=\"414\" width=\"306\"><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/09\/08\/76326555-12609663-image-m-7_1696837721773.jpg\" height=\"414\" width=\"306\"><\/p>\n<p>AC Milan lauded their striker but first cheekily adding him to their goalkeeping squad on their website &#8211; then selling his goalkeeping shirt<\/p>\n<p>Your browser does not support iframes.<\/p>\n<p>Milan were quick to capitalise on his surprise star turn, listing the player under the &#8216;goalkeepers&#8217; section in the squad on their website, and allowing fans to buy goalkeeping kit with his name and number.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But shortly after the decision was shared on social media, supporters flocked to snap up the shirts, and they have quickly sold out.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Giroud&#8217;s efforts saw Milan hold onto their febrile lead, and took them top of the Serie A table at the end of the matchweek.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The player&#8217;s team-mates made him the centre of their raucous celebrations, and after the final whistle, Giroud sounded awestruck at his snap achievement.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;I&#8217;ve never experienced that in my career and I&#8217;m proud of the whole team,&#8217; Giroud said. &#8216;We fought like lions.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;The final stop? I made a great save at the end. (The stop felt) almost like a goal.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;I said to myself, &#8220;Go, better to go out than stay in goal\u201d. I don\u2019t have the automatisms of a goalkeeper but I felt it that way.\u00a0Puscas massacred my arm but it&#8217;s okay.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/09\/08\/76326557-12609663-image-a-9_1696837751911.jpg\" height=\"437\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>The snatched win saw Milan overleap their rivals Inter Milan to go top of Serie A this weekend<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/09\/08\/76327541-12609663-image-a-10_1696837827344.jpg\" height=\"422\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Giroud&#8217;s former Chelsea team-mate Christian Pulisic scored the tie&#8217;s only goal in 87th minute<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/09\/08\/76327507-12609663-image-a-11_1696837830497.jpg\" height=\"429\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Manager Stefano Pioli (left) shared that the USMNT captain had also put himself forward<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/09\/08\/76326563-12609663-image-a-8_1696837750192.jpg\" height=\"452\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>But Giroud&#8217;s height saw him edge the winger and pull on the gloves in Mike Maignan&#8217;s absence<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;I&#8217;m taking this shirt home and framing it.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>The forward&#8217;s old Chelsea team-mate Christian Pulisic was responsible for the match&#8217;s only goal three minutes before time.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And Pioli revealed that the USMNT captain might have had an even bigger role in the tie, but for Milan&#8217;s height restrictions.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Pulisic wanted to go in goal but we told him he was too short,&#8217;
