Things are not looking good for United States captain and Bournemouth midfielder Tyler Adams – who may be facing the possibility of his second hamstring surgery of 2023.

Adams arrived at Bournemouth from Leeds after a season that ended prematurely with a hamstring issue.

The holding midfielder got surgery on his leg at the end of March and was out until finally making his debut for his new club in a September 27 match against Stoke City in the third round of the Carabao Cup.

Adams was brought on in the 70th minute and played the rest of the match – which will likely be the last one we see out of him until 2024 after he suffered what the club called a ‘setback’.

‘Tyler, we don’t expect him soon again with us,’ Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola said on Friday. ‘I think the medical staff are analyzing the situation. They are asking different specialists to take the best route we have.

The American midfielder arrived in Bournemouth on a five-year contract this past summer

‘We still haven’t decided. But whatever the solution he takes or we take, we don’t expect him soon on the pitch. It’s the same hamstring.

‘He’s not feeling well. He played some minutes because he wanted to give it a try, but he didn’t have good sensations. Now, we stop because something is not going well.

‘Because you’ve done all the previous things, so you should be ready to perform now and things are not going well. We have to think of another solution yet. I think even surgery is not out of the question.

‘It’s a possibility because we have to make sure that once we have him, we have him without any issue. 100 per cent. And I think they are analyzing everything now. We have to take a decision.’

The midfielder joined the Cherries this past summer – signing a five year contract to move from West Yorkshire to the South Coast.

Adams was set to make a return to the US men’s national team for their upcoming October friendlies against Germany and Ghana, but this injury meant he was not included in the team sheet.

USMNT manager Gregg Berhalter said that were it not for Adams’ injury that he would have made a return to the team.
