Chelsea are planning talks with Conor Gallagher over his Stamford Bridge future.

Gallagher has been a regular under Mauricio Pochettino, starting all but one game so far this season, and also captained the Chelsea side in four of their nine matches in the absence of Reece James and Ben Chilwell.

England midfielder Gallagher is now into the last two years of his current contract which expires in 2025.

That is a situation Chelsea have been keen to avoid finding themselves in since being taken over by Todd Boehly/Clearlake Capital last year.

And they are preparing to sit down with Gallagher to discuss what is best for all parties as he heads towards the final 18 months of his existing deal.

Mauricio Pochettino has made Gallagher a regular in his starting line up so far this season

Chelsea are happy with the in-form 23 year-old who has produced a number of all-action displays this season.

But there was also uncertainty over his future in the last transfer window with interest from West Ham and Tottenham making a late £40m move for Gallagher which ultimately failed.

The big money arrivals since January of Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia in particular have significantly increased the competition for places in Chelsea’s central midfield area.

But when linked with moves away in the past Gallagher’s preference has been to remain and fight for his place and he reiterated his ties to Chelsea again on Monday following their 2-0 win at Fulham.

He said: ‘It’s a really proud time for me to captain the club the few times I have.

‘You know how much it means to me and how much I want to do well at Chelsea because it’s my club that I’ve supported my whole life so to captain the club for a few games is amazing and I just want to keep trying to perform the best I can to help the team win games so hopefully I can continue to do that.’
