Tom Brady’s Buccaneers jersey from his final NFL game is set to be auctioned for up to $2.5million at next month’s inaugural Las Vegas Grand Prix.

Brady, widely considered the greatest quarterback in football history, brought the curtain down on his legendary career in February following the Bucs’ Wild Card round defeat by the Cowboys in last season’s NFL playoffs.

One year after reversing his initial retirement announcement, the seven-time Super Bowl champion insisted he was bowing out from the sport for good this time, meaning his football career ended on a low against Dallas.

Just under a year on from that poignant conclusion, the Bucs jersey Brady wore in his last ever NFL game will be flogged at the Official Auction of the Las Vegas Grand Prix, which takes place on November 18.

Presented by auctioneers RM Sotheby’s and the Wynn Hotel, the shirt will be offered with an estimate of $1.5m to a stunning $2.5m – meaning it is set to become the most expensive football jersey ever sold at an auction.

Now the jersey he wore in that final appearance will be auctioned at next month’s Las Vegas GP

The current record is held by Joe Montana’s San Francisco 49ers jersey from Super Bowl XIX and Super Bowl XXIII, which sold for $1.2m earlier this year.

Brady’s will be sold alongside Lewis Hamilton’s 2013 Mercedes-Benz F1 W04, which he drove in his first ever Formula 1 championship victory for the team. Hamilton’s car carries an estimate of between $10m and $15m.

On Brady’s jersey, Brahm Wachter, Sotheby’s Head of Streetwear & Modern Collectables, said: ‘There are only a few athletes who are universally accepted as the greatest in their sport: Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, Muhammed Ali, Wayne Gretzky, Babe Ruth. For the National Football League, it’s Tom Brady.

‘Worn at the very last game of his tenured career, this historic shirt is a tangible reminder of Brady’s unparalleled legacy, and as such, is arguably the most coveted NFL jersey to ever come to auction.

‘We’re delighted to partner with RM Sotheby’s in showcasing a jersey of unparalleled significance on the auction stage in Las Vegas. Presenting two star lots that are making their auction debut and formerly belonging to arguably two of the greatest athletes of all time, the event is certain to be among the year’s most anticipated and renowned in auction history.’

Brady spent over two decades in the NFL before waving goodbye to football after the January defeat by the Cowboys.

Since then he has been forced to adjust to life as a fan from the sidelines and the comfort of his own home, which is proving difficult to get used to.

Speaking to Jim Gray on the latest episode of his podcast ‘Let’s Go!’ on Apple, he said about watching the New England Patriots as a fan: ‘I just want to pull my hair out and go ”what the f*** is going on’!”

‘I have zero impact on any games,’ he said of this year’s league action. I didn’t have that perspective even when I was playing.

‘This is a totally new life I’m living right now too…32 years of playing and now I’m on the outside looking in.’
