Kylian Mbappe has been slammed in L’Equipe’s brutal ratings after Paris Saint-Germain were battered 4-1 by Newcastle in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

Goals from Miguel Almiron, Dan Burn and Sean Longstaff fired the in-form Magpies 3-0 ahead at St James’ Park shortly after half-time, before Lucas Hernandez pulled one back for the French champions in the 56th minute.

Despite the visitors’ efforts to turn the tide, Fabian Schar capped off Newcastle’s superb display in added time, firing a stunning long-range strike from outside the area past PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

L’Equipe, a leading sports newspaper in France, savaged PSG’s disappointing and lacklustre performance on Thursday morning, handing Mbappe a mere two out of 10 in their match ratings.

The outlet claims Mbappe ‘almost did not exist’ in their review of the dismal defeat, insisting that he was ‘very disappointing’ during the first period on Tyneside.

Meanwhile, his strike partner Randal Kolo Muani, who joined the Ligue 1 giants from Eintracht Frankfurt for £77million this summer, received the same grim rating from L’Equipe, who argue he was ‘untraceable and messy when he had rare ammunition’.

The French newspaper did not hold back on PSG’s captain Marquinhos either, slamming the Brazilian defender with a two-point rating after Eddie Howe’s side ran riot in Newcastle.

Branding the bitter defeat one ‘the worst European evenings in PSG’s history’, L’Equipe urged that Marquinhos’ plea to his team-mates to ‘slow down the pace’ early on in the match epitomised their miserable performance.

No player in Luis Enrique’s camp was handed more than a six out of 10, with three more stars in PSG’s starting line-up — Achraf Hakimi, Manuel Ugarte and Goncalo Ramos — punished with scores of three.

Luis Enrique came under much criticism too, as L’Equipe labelled the PSG manager audacious in his decision to play with four attackers against Newcastle at St James’ Park on Wednesday

The PSG manager himself was given the same low rating, as L’Equipe labelled the Spanish boss audacious in his decision to start four attackers at St James’ Park.

The newspaper added: ‘The most surprising thing is that he (Enrique) didn’t change anything in his plans despite his team’s enormous difficulties in the midfield.’

While hammering the French champions, L’Equipe praised Newcastle’s efforts in tearing PSG apart.

Bruno Guimaraes, who frequently locked horns with the Paris club during his days at Lyon, was blessed with an eight out of 10, while goal-scorers Almiron and Longstaff were given sevens.
