I\u2019m obviously extremely disappointed and this is not a reflection of the captain I aspire to be, and I\u2019m gutted that this will potentially put the start of my season at risk.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut one thing I do want to assure people is I\u2019m doing everything I possibly can to get back as quick as possible, and for Swans fans I want to make it really clear that this will not deter mine nor my teammates\u2019 commitment to chasing success in 2024.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mills wouldn\u2019t share details about how he sustained the injury, but confirmed it was a rotator cuff injury that required surgery.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/static.ffx.io\/images\/$zoom_0.189%2C$multiply_0.7725%2C$ratio_1.5%2C$width_756%2C$x_0%2C$y_0\/t_crop_custom\/q_86%2Cf_auto\/37c19210d9ab906c0a9b6dbed2a75478fb9f7407\" height=\"390\" width=\"584\"><\/p>\n<p><span>Swans captain Callum Mills fronted the media on Wednesday to apologise for putting his season at risk.<\/span><cite class=\"ojLwA\"><span>Credit: <\/span>Dion Georgopoulos<\/cite><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think that\u2019s necessarily important [how I got injured], what is important is I\u2019m here today and take ownership for my actions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWithout taking away [from] the seriousness of the injury, yes it occurred on that day [Mad Monday], and as I said I made a bad mistake.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The 26-year-old\u2019s return to AFL is up in the air, as the club and Mills wait to see how long the recovery time is.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re not sure yet, there\u2019s a window that we\u2019ve been given, but the likelihood is it may impact the start of the season,\u201d Mills said.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/static.ffx.io\/images\/$zoom_0.171%2C$multiply_0.7725%2C$ratio_1.5%2C$width_756%2C$x_0%2C$y_0\/t_crop_custom\/q_86%2Cf_auto\/afa8f28263ba5d5ed1fc8df1a9d20f91e029cba4\" height=\"390\" width=\"584\"><\/p>\n<p><span>Callum Mills underwent shoulder surgery two weeks ago.<\/span><cite class=\"ojLwA\"><span>Credit: <\/span>Getty<\/cite><\/p>\n<p>In a statement last week, Swans football manager Charlie Gardiner said Mills\u2019 injury was upsetting.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLosing players to injury in the off-season is always disappointing,\u201d Gardiner said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCallum is our captain and an important member of the squad. We are extremely disappointed this injury has occurred.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCallum is equally disappointed, as you can imagine, but he is recovering well and will get to work on his rehabilitation immediately.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mills\u2019 captaincy was brought into question following the incident, but he was firm in his desire to continue to lead the club.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think that\u2019s a discussion for the club to have. We haven\u2019t had those discussions, but what I will say it I absolutely love leading this club,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s something I hold clearly deep to my heart, and it\u2019s something that I love doing.
