Newcastle are facing an injury-crisis ahead of their Champions League clash with PSG after three key players were absent from training.

The Magpies welcome the Kylian Mbappe-inspired French giants to St James’ Park on Wednesday night, in their first home game in the competition in two decades.

Eddie Howe’s side though could be without a number of their key stars if training on the eve of the game is anything to go by.

Sandro Tonali, Joelinton and Sven Botman were all absent from the session at the Newcastle United Training Centre at Darsley Park on Tuesday.

However, there was one boost for the Magpies in the form of Callum Wilson, who trained alongside his team-mates.

The Magpies go into the game on Wednesday as significant underdogs, and their case hasn’t been helped with a number of key players missing training on Tuesday

Wilson and the rest of his Newcastle team-mates present, appeared to be in jovial spirits ahead of Wednesday’s massive Champions League clash.

The 31-year-old missed both their Carabao Cup win over Man City, and the following Premier League victory over Burnley, with a hamstring injury.

His return gives the Magpies an added attacking option, for a game in which they will be seen as the heavy underdogs.

The biggest surprise from Tuesday’s session was the absence of Italian midfielder Sandro Tonali.

There has been no word of an injury concern for their big summer signing from AC Milan, and it’s expected that Howe will be quizzed over his absence during his pre-match press conference.

His potential omission would taken on extra significance with Joelinton also a major doubt for the game.

The Brazilian limped off during the victory over Burnley with a hamstring injury.

St James’ Park will be host to a Champions League clash for the first time in two decades when they welcome a Kylian Mbappe-inspired Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday evening

Eddie Howe’s side drew their Champions League opener against AC Milan last month

Should Tonali be ruled out, it could offer the chance to academy product Elliot Anderson to make a start alongside Bruno Guimaraes and Sean Longstaff in midfield.

Howe meanwhile has stated that he doesn’t expect to see centre-back Botman before the international break due to a ‘knee problem’.

Harvey Barnes and Joe Willock will miss out once again as they continue their recoveries from respective foot and ankle injuries.

Newcastle took a point on the road in their Champions League opener against AC Milan last month, in a ‘group of death’ which also includes German giants Borussia Dortmund.
