Chelsea are reportedly weighing up whether to scrap their transfer policy of exclusively signing young players. Conversations are believed to have taken place behind the scenes ahead of Monday’s win over Fulham regarding a rethink in January, with Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital overseeing a troubled period on the pitch since last year’s takeover.

Mauricio Pochettino finally eased some of the pressure on his shoulders after a rough start to his Chelsea career, with the Argentine masterminding a convincing 2-0 win over Fulham at Craven Cottage.

The Blues are now up to 11th in the table after just their second Premier League win of the campaign. Mykhaylo Mudryk and Armando Broja came up with the goals as Pochettino’s youngsters finally showed signs of life in west London.

That being said, the jury is out on whether Chelsea’s youthful squad can keep their foot on the gas over the coming weeks. The Blues’ hierarchy followed up last season’s disappointing bottom-half Premier League finish by focusing on prospects in the summer transfer market.

If you do not win at Chelsea it creates that nervousness, and I think having a big squad, it was unprecedented and it was spoken about a lot.

“There’s been a big changeover but there is no magic wand in football. The Premier League is the most unforgiving so when you make so many changes, there are so many variables to that point.”
