Lamine Yamal is ‘set to sign a new three-year deal with Barcelona that includes a £1 billion release clause’, reports have said.

At just 16, the winger is fast becoming a favourite for Xavi’s side and has appeared in each of their league games so far.

He is yet to get on the scoresheet, but did force Barca’s old nemesis Sergio Ramos into an own goal as they beat Sevilla on Saturday.

It was a full-circle moment for Yamal, who was Ramos’ mascot for an El Clasico fixture in 2016.

Barca now look set to tie their wonderkid down until 2026, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that a formal contract will be signed on Monday.

16-year-old winger Lamine Yamal has impressed for Barcelona this season

He is now ‘set to pen a new contract that includes a £1bn release clause and will keep him at the club until 2026’

He also claims a ‘secret’ deal was agreed for the teenager in June, and that the new contract includes a ‘£1bn release clause.’

If the deal is agreed, Yamal could join the likes of Gavi and Pedri in a young core that could provide the base for Barca’s next dynasty.

Results have been steady this season, with Saturday’s win taking the Spanish champions within a point of league leaders Real Madrid.

They are yet to produce their best football, though, with just two of their six league wins coming by a margin of more than one goal.

It looked as though something had clicked after back to back 5-0 wins against Real Betis and Royal Antwerp, but they have since conceded four in three games and were held to a 2-2 draw at Mallorca.

Real have been in fine form thanks to the arrival of Jude Bellingham, but their recent defeat by Atletico in the derby showed there are defensive vulnerabilities at the Bernabeu.

With Spain’s two biggest clubs separated by so little, Real’s trip to the Olympic Stadium for the Clasico at the end of October could be one of the biggest in recent memory.
