Nottingham Forest will host Brentford in the Premier League on Sunday as both sides look to build on solid starts to the season and push up the top-flight table. But, unusually, the clash is the only Premier League game Sky Sports will be screening live as part of their Super Sunday coverage, with the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal and Manchester City all playing on Saturday at 3pm without any live UK television coverage.

Sky Sports usually broadcast two matches on a Sunday, with Tottenham’s trip to Arsenal being shown last weekend ahead of Newcastle’s demolition of Sheffield United. But football fans will be starved of their usual action on the first day of October.

According to talkSPORT, there is no official reason as to why Sky Sports aren’t filling both slots on Sunday. But it is most likely due to the fact the subscription company want to maximise their coverage of the Ryder Cup. Sky are showing the Ryder Cup on their Main Event channel, with the golf tournament scheduled to come to an end on Sunday afternoon.

However, Sky Sports won’t abandon all live football coverage after the Forest clash as they are set to show Chelsea’s derby with Tottenham as the Women’s Super League season gets underway. Up to 44 WSL matches will be screened live by Sky Sports this season as part of the deal to grow the women’s game.

TNT Sports will screen Aston Villa’s 12.30pm clash with Brighton on Saturday, which will be their seventh live match of the season. Meanwhile, the first Amazon Prime matchday will come in December.

Sky Sports’ Super Sunday has already transmitted some epic encounters this season, including Chelsea’s 1-1 draw with Liverpool on the opening weekend of the season and Arsenal’s 3-1 victory over Manchester United at the start of September. And there will likely be many more scintillating matches to come, with the Sky cameras moving to the Emirates Stadium next Sunday as Arsenal host champions Manchester City.

We use your sign-up to provide content in ways you’ve consented to and to improve our understanding of you.
