Opinions will be divided regarding an intriguing maiden on Thursday at Wyong, which will see a host of debutants up against experienced gallopers.

Race five on the program, over 1100m, has brought together a high-quality bunch of runners.

Leading trainer Ciaron Maher.Credit: Getty

Punters quickly snapped up the early odds about first starter Dark Halo, who is a clear favourite.

The Ciaron Maher and David Eustace trained galloper has caught the eye of trial watchers after dominantly winning a recent heat at Rosehill.

Further, he ran his rivals ragged, running very fast time relative to the morning, blitzing his opposition by almost ten lengths.

He now must take that trial form to race day but is wound up and has a favourable draw.

Battle Of Vienna, coming out of the Peter and Paul Snowden yard, profiles well for this assignment. His first-up run was full of merit.

The colt raced wide with cover in a genuine tempo and when produced in the final straight reeled off some of the fastest closing splits of the meeting to flash home for second.

Moreover, that race rated well relative to the day. The winner, Royal Tribute, subsequently started favourite in a Listed race.

All key indicators suggest Battle Of Vienna will be hard to hold out with any improvement, and jockey Chad Schofield sticks.

Satirical Fan is ready to break through in the 4YO&UP Maiden Plate over 1600m, and he has a positive race setup.

The four-year-old was 35 days between runs last start at Newcastle, and although having all the favours, he was honest running second.

The Kris Lees trained galloper will derive fitness benefits from that effort, draws to control the speed and has a string of winning ratings.

Hellbetta is worth watching coming out of the Sam Kavanagh yard after the gelding has had factors against him this campaign.

The four-year-old has a strong platform and has been screaming to get to a middle-distance trip.

Supplied by Racing NSW

Full form and race replays available at racingnsw.com.au

Sports news, results and expert commentary. Sign up for our Sport newsletter.

Most Viewed in Sport
