You really feel the pressure, so it\u2019s nice to be able to release a little bit.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I\u2019ll probably look to keep that in check a little bit! I had my daughter and my boy on the field with me after the game which was really special.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018We work really hard so I think it\u2019s important we celebrate little things and enjoy them as well.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>There was certainly plenty for Welsh fans to enjoy in Lyon. They became the first of the teams at the tournament here in France to qualify for the last eight.<\/p>\n<p>When No 10 Biggar was forced off with an early pectoral injury, Anscombe was pressed into action sooner than he would have expected. How he responded. Anscombe and Wales were dominant.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/09\/25\/18\/75819433-0-image-a-17_1695662912759.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Anscombe&#8217;s 23-point haul helped Warren Gatland\u2019s side qualify for the quarter-finals<\/p>\n<p>Australia wilted badly. Wallaby rugby is in crisis with their team set to exit this World Cup at the pool stages for the first time ever. Eddie Jones has been unable to make an impact.<\/p>\n<p>Wales were far too good for them, crossing for three tries. Gareth Davies opened the scoring and to a man, Gatland\u2019s side excelled.<\/p>\n<p>Anscombe ended with six penalties, a conversion and a drop goal.<\/p>\n<p>When analysing his brilliant display, it is worth remembering Anscombe plays with a bone graft from a deceased donor in his right knee. In 2019, Anscombe\u2019s World Cup dream was ruined by a serious knee injury which required three operations to fix. The fact he was even able to take to the pitch in Lyon after what he has been through fitness-wise was remarkable.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018It\u2019s why you play the game,\u2019 Anscombe said, matter-of-factly.<\/p>\n<p>Had he not missed two penalties, Anscombe would have gone past Biggar\u2019s Welsh World Cup points record which came against England in 2015 in what was another famous victory.<\/p>\n<p>As it was, he levelled his friend\u2019s mark.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/09\/25\/18\/75786409-12559051-The_win_was_Wales_biggest_ever_over_Australia_and_the_Wallabies_-a-28_1695664467078.jpg\" height=\"490\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>The win was Wales&#8217; biggest-ever over Australia and the Wallabies&#8217; heaviest at a World Cup<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Dan reminded me the last kick was to beat his record,\u2019 Anscombe said.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I\u2019m p****d off I\u2019ve only tied that. Dan is a great man and we get along so well but he\u2019s given me a bit of stick about that. It was important I did my job. It was nice to spend some time in the big arena.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Wales have already sealed a quarter-final berth. But they will finish top of Pool C if they beat Georgia. Gatland\u2019s side now go into their World Cup break period on the back of three wins.<\/p>\n<p>Their turnaround since a dismal Six Nations has been simply extraordinary.<\/p>\n<p>Wales hope Biggar\u2019s injury shouldn\u2019t prevent him from featuring in the knockout rounds.
