Tottenham’s newfound show of strength has been credited to Ange Postecoglou bringing the squad ‘together like a family’ after Sunday’s battling north London derby display.

Spurs twice came from behind to salvage a deserved point at the Emirates – captain Son Heung-min scored both – and keep their unbeaten start to the new Premier League season going.

Postecoglou wasn’t fancied by some Tottenham supporters at the time his move from Celtic was confirmed during the summer, but the Australian has massively impressed since taking over a side that limped to the finish line last season.

Spurs were rudderless last season after Antonio Conte left his position under a cloud of negativity, leaving assistant Cristian Stellini in charge before his departure and subsequently forced to have Ryan Mason stand in for the closing matches of the campaign.

Sunday’s turnaround performance against Arsenal keeps Tottenham on the tails of league leaders Manchester City, and the feel-good factor is largely being credited to Postecoglou’s team ethos by one star.

Spurs players believe Postecoglou’s parental approach to man-management is benefitting the team

Centre-back Micky van de Ven revealed after the derby result that the Spurs manager has been giving rousing dressing team talks in an effort to instil fearlessness in the team before games.

‘It is a good mentality for us. Normally when you go behind in these type of games it is really difficult to come back. We showed our mentality to come back two times. We want the three points but we have the point,’ said Van de Ven.

‘He is really clear. He is really straight. We know what he expects from us. We know what we have to do for him.

‘He is bringing us together like a family. He is more like a Dad or something. We are like brothers together and we have to do this for each other.

‘You see this on the pitch and we run for each other, we fight for each other and we do everything for each other. He is building that,’ he added.

The 22-year-old Dutch defender has settled in quickly at Tottenham following his £43m move from Wolfsburg and has already nailed down a starting role in defence.

Van de Ven is emerging as a top Premier League talent and is adamant his bright start is down to Postecoglou’s parental approach to man-management.
