Juventus rounded off a disappointing evening on Saturday, with Federico Gatti scoring a bizarre own goal in the dying embers of the match to give Sassuolo a 4-2 win.<\/p>\n
The loss means Juventus will drop from second to fourth in the Serie A standings, with Lecce and AC Milan\u00a0both climbing above Massimiliano Allegri’s side after both secured 1-0 victories against Genoa and Verona, respectively.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The home side would take their lead into injury time and continued to press on Juve, pinning them back to their own byline. Juve won a free-kick in an odd position near the corner flag with Szczesny stepping out of his box to take the kick.\u00a0<\/p>\n
He fired the ball out to Gatti, who came under pressure from the Sassuolo attackers, and forgetting the goalkeeper was not in his net, the Italian, fired a pass-back into the back of his own net.\u00a0<\/p>\n
It was a bizarre moment in the match, with the Sassuolo players wheeeling away in ecstacy, while Szczesny stood on the edge of the penalty area in disbelief.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Fans took to social media to question what the 25-year-old, who joined Juve from\u00a0Frosinone in 2022 was doing.\u00a0<\/p>\n
One wrote: ‘What in the World was Federico Gatti thinking here?\u2026’<\/p>\n
Another added: ‘This just happened.\u00a0What an outrageous own goal by Juventus’s Federico Gatti’ while another said, ‘Federico Gatti frontrunner for funniest own goal of the season.’<\/p>\n
Another said: ‘Federico Gatti with maybe the most comical own goal I’ve seen in my life. Unbelievable.’<\/p>\n
Sassuolo, meanwhile, were sensational tonight, picking up their second win of the new league season, having lost their other three outings, with\u00a0Armand Lauriente putting them a goal up after just 21 minutes.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The French midfielder struck a powerful shot at former Arsenal\u00a0goalkeeper\u00a0Wojciech Szczesny, who parried the initial strike, but the ball bounced downwards and passed between his legs.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Juventus were put back on level terms soon after with Sassuolo defender\u00a0Matias Vina tapping in an own goal from a Juve cross.\u00a0But the home side would restore the lead before half-time through Domenico Berardi powered a shot from the edge of the box into the bottom left corner.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Federico Cheisa, would snap one back for Juve to bring the scores level at 2-2, before Andrea\u00a0Pinamonti put Sassuolo 3-2 up heading in a rebound before Gatti would produce the own goal to make it 4-2.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Juventus will be hoping to turn things around next week, but they’ll face a tough challenge in Lecce who are unbeaten so far this season.<\/p>\n
