Playing in the Champions League for Manchester United means a lot to new boy Rasmus Hojlund – and he doesn't care who knows it.

Fans couldn't help but spot the summer signing's reaction to hearing the tournament's famous anthem on-field for the first time on Wednesday. Hojlund, 20, started against Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena and scored on his European debut for United – after a calamitous first half initially saw his side fall 2-0 behind.

But the Denmark international was at least temporarily left with a massive grin across his face after one of football's most recognisable tunes came on over the speakers. And viewers shared mixed reactions at the sight, with some taking the opportunity to warn youngster Hojlund he's in for some hard times.

"Look at Hojlund, he’s genuinely enjoying that UCL anthem," said one trepidatious supporter on social media. "He doesn’t deserve the pain United are gonna cause [him]."

"Look at the smile on the face of Rasmus Hojlund," wrote another. "Young lad living his dream." Another added: "Hojlund smiling, stop he’s so so cute."

Unfortunately for the £64million signing from Atalanta, his mood will have been somewhat killed after Andre Onana allowed Bayer to take the lead through Leroy Sane. What should have been a routine save for the stopper ended up snaking under his body, putting the hosts in the ascendancy.

And United suffered more pain when former Arsenal forward Serge Gnabry added a second for Bayern before half-time. Even with Hojlund in a buoyant mood, United's recent woes drag on following a stuttering return to the Champions League.

Ten Hag will be hoping the new focal point of his attack can inspire a new dawn for United. Hojlund came close to scoring on his full debut for the Red Devils at home to Brighton on Saturday, only for his goal to be ruled out.

He finally broke that deadlock with his maiden United goal early in the second half against Bayern, halving the deficit just minutes before Harry Kane scored a penalty at the other end. And Hojlund's passionate celebrations just about summarised just how much this competition means to the newcomer.
