Cricket legend Freddie Flintoff's scars have shown signs of healing since his return to the spotlight with the national team.

The iconic former all-rounder has been working with the England stars as an unpaid mentor during their recent camp. Flintoff, 45, was in attendance in a Headingley nets session on Tuesday (September 19) where he was snapped laughing alongside a handful of players.

The red scarring that was seen around Flintoff's face has now gone down as he adjusts back to life in the public eye following nine months out of the spotlight. The Ashes icon has been in recovery following a high-speed crash that occurred during a Top Gear filming last year.

Flintoff's role with ODI squad during their series against New Zealand came as a welcome surprise to fans. The former A League of Their Own star was filming Top Gear at the show's test track at Dunsfold Park Aerodrome, Surrey, when his open-topped Morgan Super 3 car flipped over in December.

Flintoff was seen with visible scars on his face having been lucky to survive according to his son, after being rushed to hospital at the time of the incident. Flintoff's accident led to a suspension in the filming of series 34 of Top Gear pending a health and safety review, with his fellow presenters being Paddy McGuinness and Chris Harris.

Speaking about his return to the England fold as a coach, current ODI skipper Los Buttler was delighted. "He's obviously an England legend and it's just nice to have him around the group," Buttler said.

"He's not been brought in with any specific role, just to be around and observe. A few of the lads can pick his brains a little bit and he's settled in really well. It's great to have him with us. Just for this series."
