Liverpool are closing in on new contracts for two of Jurgen Klopp’s full-backs, according to reports. Real Madrid-linked Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Andrew Robertson’s understudy, Kostas Tsimikas, are both in line for fresh terms at Anfield.

Alexander-Arnold is into his eighth season in and around the Liverpool first team, having graduated from the club’s academy set-up as a teenager. Now approaching 300 senior appearances for the Reds, he remains a key part of Klopp’s back line.

With a contract until 2025, the Reds are understandably keen to extend Alexander-Arnold’s deal and therefore avoid the risk of losing him on the cheap next summer. Real Madrid are among those keeping tabs on the 24-year-old, who can play in central midfield as well as right-back.

But Los Blancos are faced with the prospect of going without, as 90min claim that terms are close to being finalised with Liverpool and Alexander-Arnold over a long-term deal.

The Reds would be under no pressure whatsoever to sell if the new deal goes through, meaning Real would have to pay an extortionate fee to prise him away from Merseyside.

Tsimikas signing a new contract will only add to Klopp’s relief. The same report adds that the Greek international is ready to agree an extension until 2027, despite failing to break into the starting XI.

We use your sign-up to provide content in ways you’ve consented to and to improve our understanding of you. The 27-year-old is held in high regard by Jurgen Klopp, and he could get a run of games in the Europa League this campaign.

Real Madrid have seemingly been scouring the English top flight for potential right-back options, with Chelsea star Reece James also believed to be on their hit list. But like Alexander-Arnold, the Englishman is expected to stay put.

Klopp and co continued their strong start to the season on Saturday, marking their return to domestic action with a 3-1 comeback win over Wolves at Molineux.

Cody Gakpo and Robertson were on the scoresheet for the visitors, with Hugo Bueno’s own goal sealing the result, which leaves Liverpool undefeated in third place after five matches of the 2023/24 campaign.
