Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino will, once again, need to attempt to spark his squad into life when his players return to training this week. The Blues drew 0-0 away at Bournemouth on Sunday, with numerous stars failing to meet the mark and repay the faith of their manager. Express Sport takes a look at four players that Pochettino is facing issues with after five matches of the Premier League season…

Nicolas Jackson

After links to some of Europe’s top strikers, Chelsea opted to put their trust in Jackson to lead the line for the club until at least January. The Senegal international has struggled to justify that decision to date though, proving wasteful in front of goal and failing to link up with his team-mates when basic passing opportunities have opened up for him.

Jackson is still a very raw talent and is not the ruthless No 9 this team needs. He will need to improve his finishing or else he faces falling out of the team once the transfer window reopens.

Mykhaylo Mudryk

Pochettino jumped to the defence of Mudryk after his display against Bournemouth and insisted that he is still learning, but the Ukraine international is testing the patience of supporters.

The 22-year-old has shown glimpses of promise due to his speed and desire to run in behind, but his end product needs serious work and if he continues to underwhelm while getting more games, then Pochettino may have to cut his losses on the £88million winger who Chelsea beat Arsenal to sign in January.

Don’t miss… Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino shares his Zinedine Zidane plan for Blues[LATEST]

Levi Colwill

Chelsea have a plethora of left-backs on their books but against Bournemouth, Pochettino insisted on playing Colwill there instead, despite him being a centre-back. The England under-21 international has understandably looked uncomfortable in the role.

He lacked the know-how to be a presence in the final third when roaming forward, whilst also leaving gaps defensively. Pochettino therefore has a decision to make as to whether he continues playing Colwill.

The Argentine must surely get him back into a centre-back position if he’s going to use him.

We use your sign-up to provide content in ways you’ve consented to and to improve our understanding of you. More info

Ben Chilwell

Among those left-backs that have been forced out of position by Colwill’s spell in left-back is Chilwell, who was dropped to the bench against Bournemouth. The ex-Leicester City defender has spent the majority of the campaign playing almost as a winger but his skillset does not fit the role.

He may spend a spell on the sideline as a result if Mudryk develops some consistency. Chilwell is held in high regard at Chelsea, having been named vice-captain, but it would be no surprise if he begins to ponder where he slots into Pochettino’s plans soon.
