Like it or not, Max Verstappen predicts a return to a full-strength Red Bull in Sunday’s Japanese Grand Prix.

The world champion team were chasing their tails all weekend in Singapore, though his fifth place and Sergio Perez’s eighth were better than they could have hoped for after shocking Friday and Saturday form.

Despite this end to his 10-race winning streak, Verstappen leads the standings by a giant 151 points going to high-speed Suzuka, a different proposition from the high-downforce Marina Bay Circuit.

‘I feel good about Suzuka,’ said Verstappen. ‘We learned from today and what we got wrong yesterday. I cannot go into details.

‘Getting back on top is the target. Yes.

Verstappen saw his ten-race winning streak come to an end in Singapore as he finished fifth

‘We have a few ideas. This track is so different and it doesn’t relate.’ Carlos Sainz’s victory yesterday derailed Red Bull’s perfect season — they now have 14 wins from 15 — but team principal Christian Horner is hardly complaining.

‘We never expected such a hell of a run,’ he enthused.

‘It is beyond our wildest imaginings.

‘We knew it had to come to an end at some point. Max has won 10 in a row and that is insanity. We are grateful and proud of it all.’
