TNT Sports commentator Darren Fletcher was called an "embarrassment" after he asked Liverpool star Andy Robertson for his shirt.

Fletcher was the man behind the microphone as Jurgen Klopp's Reds beat Wolves 3-1 on their travels in the early Premier League kick-off on Saturday (September 16) afternoon. Robertson completed their comeback late on in the second half with his strike.

After the match, Fletcher and his co-commentator Jermaine Jenas headed down to pitchside and spoke with him while TNT were still on air – with their cameras picking up the moment he handed over his shirt.

Pundit Peter Crouch joked: "Fletch is blagging a t-shirt. You know, I'm glad we've got that on camera because it's like every game now. It's an absolute embarrassment."

Joe Cole added: "Driving Premier League players mad for their shirts." Before host Lynsey Hipgrave said: "Caught in the act."

While the panel had a good laugh about it, fans watching on at home were less than impressed. One posted on X: "That’s where we are with football commentators now is it? Embarrassing."

A second echoed: "This is embarrassing by ‘Fletch’. Games gone!" A third fumed: "Supposed to be neutral, shocking."

"I hope that's getting auctioned for charity," commented a fourth, while a fifth argued: "I'm not sure I'd be highlighting my match commentator doing this."

Fletcher responded to the criticism on his account, first posting: "For my son – birthday Monday. No further questions!!!" Before later adding: "My sons birthday on Monday – thought it would be a nice touch. Bloody CCTV [laughing emojis] #redhanded."

As for the action on the pitch, Wolves took an early lead through Hwang Hee-chan. It looked like Liverpool's early kick-off curse was going to continue, but Cody Gakpo levelled after the restart and Robertson put Liverpool ahead before a Hugo Bueno own-goal made it 3-1 in stoppage time.
