Netflix’s golf docuseries ‘Full Swing’ will not have full access to the Ryder Cup later this month.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The US team has taken the unanimous decision to deny the behind-the-scenes documentary access to the lockers rooms after concerns were raised about filming at the Ryder Cup, which starts the week of September 25.\u00a0<\/p>\n
US captain Zach Johnson revealed he spoke with all 12 members of his team after concerns were raised about filming crew being in the team rooms and they took the decision to limit access to certain areas.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The documentary is in production for its second season after its debut in February and the Ryder Cup is expected to play a huge role in its plotlines for the upcoming series.\u00a0<\/p>\n
However, enough players brought forth concerns that Johnson decided to put it to a vote and they opted to keep their team room at Marco Simone in Rome, Italy off limits.\u00a0<\/p>\n

‘It was one of those where we all gathered, I talked to every individual and laid out scenarios,’ Johnson told Associated Press.\u00a0<\/p>\n
‘And they all felt like it was best to navigate that week of the tournament in a manner which the sanctity and sacredness of Team USA is preserved. We’re eliminating scenarios.’<\/p>\n
A Netflix spokesperson declined comment.<\/p>\n
The Americans and Europeans typically each have a team room at their hotel and the golf course. They have historically been off limits to the media and other VIPs not directly involved in the matches.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Stefan Schauffele, the father of Xander Schauffele, said he first was aware of the Netflix presence when he received a player participation and benefits agreement in July, a month before Ryder Cup qualifying had ended.<\/p>\n
‘Apart from the fact the guys don’t get paid, you cannot make a deal with a third party that we are not party to for rights into eternity,’ said Stefan Schauffele, who said his son did not sign the agreement without changes to the language.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Justin Thomas, a captain’s pick this year who participated in Full Swing’s debut season, insisted it was an easy decision for the team to make.\u00a0<\/p>\n

‘I just think there was maybe a couple of people a little skeptical, and it really was not even a conversation,’ Thomas said. ‘We’re all a team this week. All 12 were on board, so it doesn’t really matter.’\u00a0<\/p>\n
The series, which aims to bring the same success and impact to the sport as Formula One’s Drive to Survive by appealing to existing and non-golf fans, had extensive access to players throughout 2022 amid the fallout of the PGA Tour’s bitter feud with the LIV Golf breakaway.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The PGA Tour released results a general population survey that showed 42 percent of those who watched at least some of the Netflix series spent more time watching golf on TV, and 36 percent spent more time engaging with pro golf on social media.<\/p>\n
Nielsen Media Research analysis in US markets showed 60 percent of viewers are between the ages of 25 and 54, and 63 percent of viewers watched the PGA Tour in the two months following the series’ debut.\u00a0<\/p>\n
