Maguire was still the club captain then. He should have reacted furiously, put Onana in his box and demanded respect.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Instead, he has the persona of someone whose confidence and authority is utterly broken.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Carragher also believes Maguire&#8217;s demise as captain &#8216;gained momentum&#8217; while Red Devils legend Cristiano Ronaldo was at the club following his return in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;It was a similar story when Cristiano Ronaldo returned and reports emerged about power struggles in the United dressing room,&#8217; he added. &#8216;That is when the undermining of Maguire gained momentum.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Your browser does not support iframes.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/09\/14\/08\/73800579-12516935-United_s_new_47million_goalkeeper_was_seen_rushing_over_to_Magui-a-95_1694676079793.jpg\" height=\"286\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Manchester United&#8217;s new goalkeeper Onana rushed over to Maguire and shouted at him for giving the ball away during a preseason game against Borussia Dortmund earlier this summer<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/09\/14\/08\/75419503-12516935-image-a-96_1694676140900.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Onana has been a popular figure at Old Trafford so far, replacing David de Gea as United&#8217;s No 1<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/09\/14\/08\/75418053-12516935-image-a-92_1694676006438.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Gareth Southgate (above) labelled the booing towards Maguire &#8216;an absolute joke&#8217; and has continued to stick by the Red Devils star despite his lack of minutes in the Premier League<\/p>\n<p>United paid \u00a380m to lure Maguire from Leicester in 2019, but now the centre-back is way down the pecking order with Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane and Victor Lindelof all ahead of him under Ten Hag.<\/p>\n<p>The England star was heavily linked with West Ham throughout the summer transfer window, but the defender ultimately turned down the move.<\/p>\n<p>According to Carragher, Maguire leaving Old Trafford to join the Hammers would have given him a perfect chance to win back respect.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;He missed the opportunity to start landing a few punches when he turned down West Ham in the summer,&#8217; the former Reds defender said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;David Moyes would have had the perfect manager in an ideal team for Maguire\u2019s attributes.
