Jadon Sancho has deleted the social media statement that claimed he had been made a scapegoat at Manchester United.

In a move which has been welcomed at Old Trafford and considered a step towards repairing relations with United manager Erik ten Hag, Sancho removed the incendiary post which appeared after United’s 3-1 defeat at Arsenal on September 3.

Ten Hag had explained that Sancho’s absence from the squad that day was due to his ‘performances in training’.

That prompted an angry response from the winger, whose statement read: ‘I have conducted myself in training very well this week’ and ‘I’ve been a scapegoat for a long time which isn’t fair!’

The statement had remained pinned to the top of Sancho’s X account until Tuesday evening. But it has now been deleted after Sancho met Ten Hag this week to discuss their differences.

As Mail Sport revealed, United are weighing up a move for Netherlands winger Anwar El Ghazi — who is a free agent — amid the uncertainty around Sancho and Antony, who is facing assault claims in Brazil.

On Monday, Sancho was seen for the first time since he clashed with Erik ten Hag after attending an NBA star’s birthday party in New York.

Sancho is facing an uncertain future at Old Trafford after being dropped by the Dutch coach over his ‘training performance’ for their 3-1 loss to Arsenal last time out – with the England international hitting back and claiming he was being made ‘a scapegoat’.

Despite being linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, Sancho ended up staying at Old Trafford – meaning he will have to fight harder for his place or be satisfied with a substitute role – but for now he has been taking time away during the international break.

Sancho was pictured enjoying a party in the United States during celebrations for Aaron Wall’s birthday, with fellow United team-mate Aaron Wan-Bissaka also making the trip to see the former Los Angeles Clippers star.

The picture showed Sancho wearing a navy T-shirt with a chain around his neck and black trousers and white trainers.

Wan-Bissaka was seen to his left, with the full-back wearing a burgandy T-shirt and camoflauge trousers during the party in the Big Apple.

The pair will be expected back at Carrington this week ahead of United’s next game on Saturday at home to Brighton.

Sancho will hope to be involved in the matchday squad despite being left out entirely against Arsenal.

Ten Hag gave a blunt response when asked why Sancho had not been chosen in his squad against the Gunners, saying: ‘Jadon, on his performances in training we did not select him.

‘You have to reach a level every day at Manchester United and we can make choices in the front line. So for this game he was not selected.’

Sancho immediately sought to clarify his comments, claiming they were ‘completely untrue’

‘Please don’t believe everything you read! I will not allow people saying things that is (sic) completely untrue, I have conducted myself in training very well this week.

‘I believe there are other reasons for this matter that I won’t go into, l’ve been a scapegoat for a long time which isn’t fair! ‘All I want to do is play football with a smile on my face and contribute to my team.

‘I respect all decisions that are made by the coaching staff, I play with fantastic players and (am) grateful to do so which I know every week is a challenge.

‘I will continue to fight for this badge no matter what!’

Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq made a move to sign the winger but a loan was ruled out by Manchester United as Mail Sport exclusively revealed that the Saudi Pro League side refused to meet Sancho’s asking price .

His former club Borussia Dortmund has also been mooted as a possible destination in January after the Germans reportedly lined up a shock loan move – two years since he left for Old Trafford in a £73million deal.

Sancho is yet to make a start for United this season and has played just three times as a substitute – featuring for a total of 77 minutes in the Premier League.
