Former Manchester City midfielder Stephen Ireland revealed that Carlos Tevez almost had a fight with manager Roberto Mancini.

The feisty Argentine was no stranger to run-ins with Mancini during their time at City, after Tevez was famously suspended by the club for two weeks and fined £500,000 after Tevez seemingly refused to come on as a substitute during a Champions League away clash at Bayern Munich.

But Ireland revealed that the incident on the Bayern bench wasn’t the only time the two almost came to blow.

Speaking to Ladbrokes Fanzone, Ireland said: “Him and Roberto Mancini were a crazy partnership, they were always having blows, always close to fighting. They were going head-to-head all the time.

“There was one time Mancini called a meeting in the changing room and him and Tevez are so close to having a full on fight.

“It was really, really bad. Tevez lost it at him, big time. He went head-to-head with him and the pair had to be split up.

“But look at what he did for the club; he was such a good player, he worked so hard during those matches. I loved how single-minded and selfish he was.

“People would always talk about how much of a team player he was. He actually wasn't a team player; everything he did was for himself.

“He was only working hard for himself, but that made him look like a team player. I actually loved him for it, though. He was incredible.

“He had a ridiculous career from start to finish, but he was so single-minded. He didn't care about making that move from Manchester United to City.

“But yeah, he wasn't a hard trainer in the slightest, he made his own rules, he didn't really care about being late, didn't care about training – he managed his body how he wanted to manage his body, but he backed it up on a Saturday, so maybe that was his superpower.

“Monday to Friday he could do what he wanted, and when Saturday came around everyone would see the reason why. I couldn't do that, because I know it would bite me on the arse come match day!”
