Another dramatic weekend of Premier League action saw Manchester City extend their perfect start and a free-flowing Tottenham purr in their victory at Burnley.

City ruthlessly dispatched Fulham 5-1 at the Etihad Stadium to make it four wins from four in their title defence, while Spurs put Vincent Kompany’s side to the sword in an Ange-Ball clinic at Turf Moor.

Elsewhere, Arsenal defeated Manchester United after stoppage-time drama, while there were also wins for the likes of Brighton, Liverpool and West Ham.

Big spenders Chelsea, however, fell to a shock 1-0 home loss by Nottingham Forest.

So, now the dust has settled, who features in Mail Sport‘s latest Power Rankings?

Manchester City continued their perfect start to the new season after thrashing Fulham 5-1

Tottenham romped to victory at newcomers Burnley, with Son Heung-min scoring a hat-trick

10. Matty Cash

9. Jarrod Bowen

8. Luis Diaz

7. Kaoru Mitoma

6. Raheem Sterling

5. Bryan Mbeumo

4. Solly March

3. James Ward-Prowse

2. Rodri

1. James Maddison

10. James Ward-Prowse (down seven)

Being likened to Andrea Pirlo is quite the compliment, but one Vladimir Coufal happily directed toward his West Ham team-mate, James Ward-Prowse.

The midfielder has already scored one goal and racked up three assists in his three appearances to date and was again on hand at Luton to tee up Kurt Zouma to head home.

Fuelled by their new engine in the middle of the park, West Ham look a refreshing proposition this season and Ward-Prowse has so far stood at the heart of everything good.

The fact his passing and energy are matched by raw numbers is a big bonus.

James Ward-Prowse delivered an understated but effective performance in West Ham’s win

Your browser does not support iframes.

9. Rodri (down seven)

It should be said that Rodri’s tumble down the standings this week is more to do with the sensational performances of others, rather than any sloppiness on his part.

Once again, he was metronomic at the base of City’s midfield, helping to selflessly lay the foundations for their emphatic home victory.

As shown already this season, however, he has also improved his attacking output, having scored twice already.

He may not have netted a late winner like against Sheffield United, but he once again caught the eye with an understated individual showing that kept his side ticking.

The metronomic Rodri kept City ticking on their way to an emphatic triumph at the Etihad

8. Bryan Mbeumo (down three)

Sorry, Bryan.

It is admittedly harsh to downgrade Mbeumo even in light of his stoppage-time leveller against Bournemouth, so for that, we apologise.

There was no hat-trick, with three of his peers taking that accolade this weekend, but Mbeumo was his team’s hero after pouncing to score after 93 minutes. His was a well-taken finish, with the striker having burst through on goal and tucked home.

Even with goalkeeper Neto looking to narrow the angle, it never looked as though Mbeumo would miss. And in Ivan Toney’s absence, that clinical eye will be vital.

Bryan Mbeumo’s stoppage-time equaliser clinched Brentford a draw with Bournemouth

7. Kaoru Mitoma (no change)

With three assists and one goal so far, Kaoru Mitoma is a man on a mission.

Having surely caught the eye of some of the world’s biggest clubs after his sensational first season at Brighton, the tricky winger is not done yet, as shown again during the Seagulls’ 3-1 victory over an admittedly below-par Newcastle.

His latest goal contribution came courtesy of a mazy dribble to the edge of the box, with his pass to Evan Ferguson allowing the young striker to dispatch a left-footed effort, aided by a wicked deflection off Fabian Schar that deceived Nick Pope.

Kaoru Mitoma was influential for Brighton yet again in their 3-1 victory over Newcastle

6. Declan Rice (new entry)

The grin etched across Declan Rice’s face after he fired Arsenal in front against Manchester United was certainly infectious – unless you are a Red Devil, of course.

A breathless Rice was the anchor for an improved display from Mikel Arteta’s side and he seemingly popped up all over the pitch, stamping out a United attack at one turn and then slotting the ball into the final third just moments later.

His goal was richly deserved and propelled Arsenal back into the thick of it after their slip-up at home to Fulham.

Yes, he cost a staggering £105million, and yes, he may not contribute enough offensively, but he remains a slick, role model performer.

Declan Rice fired Arsenal ahead against Manchester United, sparking wild scenes of jubilation

5. Jarrod Bowen (up four)

West Ham briefly climbed to the top of the Premier League after beating Luton 2-1, spoiling the home side’s long-awaited return to the modernised Kenilworth Road.

Bowen netted his third goal of the season as he opened the scoring, with Lucas Paqueta’s stunning chip toward the back post allowing the forward to head in.

His awareness to peel off his marker and exploit the space makes him deadly around the box.

Somehow he was left out of England’s squad for their upcoming matches but responded to the omission in the best way possible. Should he keep producing the goods, Gareth Southgate will certainly find it impossible to overlook him again.

Jarrod Bowen netted the opening goal as West Ham beat Luton and climbed top of the table

4. James Maddison (down three)

It has been quite the start to life at Tottenham for James Maddison.

It was common knowledge that Spurs had recruited one of the best playmakers in the country, and a vocal leader to boot, but the way he has embraced the many machinations and combinations of Ange Postecoglou’s project is stunning.

Maddison now has two goals in his last two games and most of Spurs’ attacks seem to flow through him.

He is also willing to drop into a deeper position, collect the ball from the backline and then shepherd it forward, making him every manager’s dream.

James Maddison has enjoyed a sensational start to life under Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham

Your browser does not support iframes.

3. Erling Haaland (new entry)

After a two-week hiatus, Erling Haaland has returned to the Power Rankings. And in the wake of his hat-trick against Fulham, it is little wonder Manchester City’s assistant manager Juanma Lillo said the striker was born to score goals.

This Terminator-like striker just keeps on rolling relentlessly, with virtually no one in the whole of the top-flight able to keep him quiet for too long.

Sure enough, the floodgates soon opened against Fulham, with Haaland scoring all three of his goals after half-time.

There is plenty more to the frontman’s all-round game, as demonstrated in him teeing up Julian Alvarez for the breakthrough, but Haaland remains one of the finest finishers the Premier League has ever seen. That does not bode well for City’s rivals this year.

Erling Haaland was among three players to score a hat-trick across a dramatic weekend

2. Evan Ferguson (new entry)

For Evan Ferguson, the sky truly is the limit. The 18-year-old scored with three of his four shots in Brighton’s victory against Newcastle, with his hat-trick seeing him earn the same achievement as seasoned hitmen Son Heung-min and Erling Haaland.

He stands among esteemed company elsewhere, too.

Indeed, only Michael Owen, Wayne Rooney and Francis Jeffers scored more Premier League goals before their 19th birthday than Ferguson, who has spectacularly burst onto the scene.

Ferguson is blessed with superb physicality and a varied skillset that makes him a nightmare to handle. Newcastle’s backline simply couldn’t touch him.

Evan Ferguson also netted three goals, helping high-flying Brighton down a poor Newcastle

1. Son Heung-min (new entry)

The departure of Harry Kane understandably raised eyebrows at Tottenham but they appear to have more than enough to offset their talisman’s painful departure.

He may have failed to find the back of the net in the first three games of the season, but Son provided a timely reminder of his enviable ability by scoring a hat-trick against Burnley, helping Spurs bounce back from shipping an early opener.

The South Korean spearheaded a high press for a side reinvigorated under Ange Postecoglou and provided edge when it was required, sealing his return to the scene with a bang.

Son Heung-min was on hand with three goals of his own, a timely reminder of his stellar quality

It’s All Kicking Off is an exciting new podcast from Mail Sport that promises a different take on Premier League football.

It is available on MailOnline, Mail+, YouTube, Apple Music and Spotify.

Your browser does not support iframes.

LAST WEEK’S TOP 10 RANKINGS
