Comments made by Red Bull chief Christian Horner about Ferrari star Carlos Sainz after the Italian Grand Prix were ‘not cool’, Sky Sports reporter Ted Kravitz insists. Horner appeared to take aim at Sainz over two battles with Red Bull’s drivers.

The Spaniard first attempted to defend against Max Verstappen and then Sergio Perez at Monza. He ultimately failed in both of those duels, with Red Bull recording their sixth one-two of the season as Verstappen finished victorious once again.

Horner still appeared to be unhappy with Sainz’s approach, though, claiming the Ferrari ace was ‘very robust’ and at times ‘a little late’.

The Red Bull team principal said afterwards: “There were a few comments raised. Carlos was very robust, he was a little late at times, he moved a bit.”

“But,” he added. “He’s driving a Ferrari, at Monza, he’s going to defend for his life.”

The journalist pointed out that it was Sainz’s job to defend against Verstappen and Perez.

“I thought that comment from Christian Horner when he said Sainz was defending as if his life depended on it… if Horner meant that in a sort of antsy way, well that’s not cool,” Kravitz said, speaking on Ted’s Notebook.

“Because you know what? His life did depend on it, Carlos Sainz’s life did depend on it.

“He had absolutely every right to defend from Max Verstappen, Sergio Perez, and everybody else who passed him or tried to pass him today as if his life depended on it because that’s what they’re paid for.”

Click here to join our WhatsApp community to be the first to receive breaking and exclusive F1 news.

We use your sign-up to provide content in ways you’ve consented to and to improve our understanding of you.
