Manchester United legend Roy Keane and colleague Micah Richards were reportedly 'left shaken' after allegedly being assaulted by a fan at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

As he watched his former club fall to a dramatic 3-1 defeat in the closing stages of United's trip to Arsenal, footage emerged of Keane involved in a concerning incident behind the scenes. He and fellow Sky Sports pundit Richards were in the Highbury Bar hospitality area of the Emirates when a fan reportedly approached them in a heated fashion.

In the short video, ex-Man City defender Richards can be seen holding a man against a door with both hands while Keane shouts over his shoulder. The Daily Express reported a witness urged Emirates staff to call the police and deal with the fan, who is understood to have been escorted out of the stadium.

It's also been reported by both the Express and Daily Mail that the man in question attempted to headbutt Keane while they exchanged some tense words. The Sun say both he and Richards were ultimately 'left shaken' as a result, but they remained professional and conducted their post-match work pitchside live on TV just minutes later.

Sky is now said to be reconsidering its security detail following the exchange and is set to give its pundits greater care on matchdays. The Highbury Bar is only for platinum members at the Emirates, and it's unknown if the fan should have been in that section of the West Stand.

"The fan seemingly tried to headbutt Roy Keane. I then saw a mark between his eyebrows," a witness told the Express. "Micah Richards stepped in and pushed the fan back against the door. I heard the altercation and I was shocked to see the individuals involved.

"Richards was very forceful at keeping the fan from attacking Keane and neither their security nor the door security could split the two apart. Keane was asking nearby staff to call the police."

The MET Police have said they are "investigating following an assault that is alleged to have occurred at the Emirates Stadium".

They added: "There have been no arrests. Enquiries are ongoing. Any witnesses or those with information are asked to call 101 ref CAD 6961/3 Sept. The Met does not identify any person who may, or may not be, a victim in or subject to an investigation."

The witness also suggested there was 'a small amount of blood on the floor on the route where the fan was led out'.

Former Republic of Ireland international Keane appeared to be unharmed when he fulfilled his post-match media duties. Both he and Richards took part in the breakdown on the Emirates Stadium turf analysing United's latest loss.

Feelings of hope turned to agony in a matter of seconds for the travelling team as Alejandro Garnacho appeared to score an 88th-minute winner before it was ruled out. Arsenal then scored in the 96th and 101st minutes to turn one point into three at the death.

Keane and former United team-mate Gary Neville each pondered why the standards at Old Trafford have fallen so significantly in familiar scenes. Elsewhere, streamer Mark Goldbridge had a meltdown as the Red Devils' latest defeat was sealed in agonising fashion, picking apart defenders Harry Maguire and Jonny Evans for their contributions off the bench.
