Hollywood actor Ryan Reynolds gifted a terminally ill football fan part of his iconic Deadpool outfit following Wrexham’s National League promotion last season. Reynolds and fellow movie star Rob McElhenney have revolutionised the Welsh club since taking over at the end of 2020.

Last season Wrexham returned to the Football League for the first time in 15 years, after clinching the National League title with a record-breaking 111 points. Reynolds has become an adopted son of the Welsh city and has become a favourite with the fans.

The actor is often seen as the face of the club in front of the camera, but it appears Reynolds is doing great things for the club away from the limelight too. Having photographed Wrexham’s promotion season, photographer Cody Froggatt revealed one of Reynolds’ many touching moments which saw him give a terminally ill fan one of his gloves from the Deadpool movies.

Don’t miss…

“You’re there to do a job, you can’t get caught up in it like: ‘Oh my god, it’s Deadpool!’,” the photographer told Wales Online. “I remember when he gave the terminally ill fan his original Deadpool glove and he gave Fozzy [Ben Foster] his other one.

“And we’re like: ‘Hang on, what’s that? He’s got the Deadpool glove on him!’ Like the actual original one from the film and he just gave it away. He is a very casual and nonchalant person, Ryan.” Reynolds has often been praised for his interactions with the club’s fans.

We use your sign-up to provide content in ways you’ve consented to and to improve our understanding of you. More info

On the back of the club’s promotion in April, Reynolds and co-owner McElhenney celebrated alongside the locals on an emotional evening for both the owners and fanbase. And after the boozy celebrations, Reynolds took to social media to thank all those involved with the club

“Everything I own smells like champagne, beer, and grass,” he tweeted. “I’m still somewhere between giggling and sobbing. This town and this sport is one of the most romantic things on earth. Thank you, @Wrexham_AFC.”
