Manchester United are reportedly forking out £8,000 a month for a luxury villa for Mason Greenwood to live in whilst out on loan at Getafe. The forward secured an exit from Old Trafford on deadline day after it was mutually agreed that the academy graduate needed to leave the club.

Greenwood had charges of attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm dropped earlier this year. However, despite being cleared to return to football, United ruled that they would conduct their own internal investigation into the matter.

After six months, it was announced that the Red Devils had decided to part ways with Greenwood and that they would facilitate his exit, insisting that they have a duty of care to ensure that the transition is smooth throughout. Several Italian clubs, notably Lazio, and Saudi Arabian outfits were linked with the England international.

But Spanish side Getafe swooped in on Friday to sign the forward on loan for the remainder of the campaign, with United paying a significant amount of his wages still. According to The Sun, the Red Devils will pay more than half of Greenwood’s wages whilst in the La Liga, as well as providing him with a luxury villa to reside in.

Greenwood will also be able to contact a translator at all hours of the day to seek any assistance that he may need at the cost of United.

It has also been agreed that the 21-year-old’s family and friends will also be flown out to Madrid regularly to keep him company when he is not training for his new side. It is also claimed that Greenwood’s dad, Andrew, will move to Spain with his son.

We use your sign-up to provide content in ways you’ve consented to and to improve our understanding of you. More info

Getafe have not paid a fee to sign Greenwood and are believed to be making just a small contribution towards his wages. Explaining why the club pursued the England international, their manager Jose Bordalas said: “It’s a very delicate situation to trivialise that issue.

“Everyone knows what happened and appropriate measures were taken. Everyone knows how it ended, with a non-conviction. He’s a footballer of a very high level and arrives at Getafe with enormous enthusiasm. For our part, we will look to help him.”
