Khabib tells McGregor he will ‘never’ bounce back in brutal putdown

Khabib Nurmagomedov has sent a brutal message to arch-rival Conor McGregor after his rematch defeat against Dustin Poirier last month: “You’ll never reach your peak again.”

McGregor was knocked out for the first time in his MMA career against Poirier at UFC 257, meaning he has dropped down to seventh in the current lightweight rankings and to 15th in the overall pound-for-pound rankings.

The Irishman has now lost two of his last three fights, with Khabib also forcing him to tap out when they locked horns in a bitter grudge match that ended on an ugly note at UFC 229.

There is certainly no love lost between the pair, who were both fined and suspended after their ill-tempered clash ended with a mass brawl between their respective teams inside and outside the Octagon.

Following his latest defeat at the hands of Poirier, Khabib was asked in a recent interview with Magomed Ismailov if McGregor can bounce back to reach the top of the sport once again.

But he replied: “Never. There is no way that a man can be at the peak for two times.”

He then added: “I’m not talking about him. What I mean is, a man cannot have two primes.

“A team could do it. For example, Real Madrid did this a few times in a row. Teams may have this.

While Khabib isn’t convinced he has what it takes to recover, McGregor is already plotting his route to redemption in a potential rematch with Poirier this year.

UFC chief Dana White has told fans his biggest cash cow is “obsessed” with settling the score with the American in 2021.

“100 percent [he wants the rematch],” White told ESPN.

“He’s completely obsessed with the rematch now and wants the fight back.

“When you have two guys, Dustin who’s the number one guy in the world and a guy like Conor, and they both want it that badly, you do it. You do it."
