Conor McGregor confirms Dustin Poirier rematch in July with X-rated tweet

Conor McGregor has got his wish for an immediate rematch against Dustin Poirier, and will meet 'The Diamond' on July 10 in Las Vegas.

The 'Notorious' was defeated in sensational fashion by Poirier in Abu Dhabi at UFC Fight Island, losing by knockout in the second round.

It had been suggested that McGregor would retire in the immediate aftermath of the bout, but the Irishman quickly hit back at those claims.

Now, he will have the chance to beat Poirier for a second time, having knocked him out back in 2014.

"The fight is booked! July 10th you’re gonna see what the Mac is about," McGregor tweeted.

"Adjust and absolutely f****** destroy!"

The UFC this week confirmed the fight will take place in July, giving both fighters the chance for a proper training camp.

McGregor has been training since the first fight, after vowing to get straight back in the gym following the knockout loss.

John Kavanagh will now have the chance to set up a new gameplan for the return fight, and will no doubt be learning from McGregor's performance from UFC 256.

The former two-weight champion started the fight well, but was quickly hampered by Poirier's calf kicks, which prevented him from moving freely around the cage.

In the second round, the Irishman was barely able to walk, and was a sitting target for Poirier, who teed off at will and won via stoppage to reverse the result of their first fight, which took place eight years prior.

McGregor immediately called for a rematch, and vowed he wouldn't retire despite a lengthy spell of inactivity.

Instead, he admitted he was suffering from ring rust having only fought twice in the UFC in the last four years.
