Petra Kvitova has been forced to withdraw from this year’s French Open after suffering a freak injury following her post-match media duties at the weekend. Press conferences have been a major talking point at the 2021 Roland Garros following Naomi Osaka’s refusal to take part in her media requirements.

All players were then asked to give their views on Osaka’s stance with mixed reaction from her colleagues.

The four-time Grand Slam champion has since decided to pull out of the tournament, announcing in a statement on Tuesday that she will “take some time away from the court now”.

Her withdrawal comes as a huge blow to the women’s side of the draw with Osaka being the world No 2 and one of the biggest pulls in the tournament.

But the French Open has now been dealt another setback with No 11 seed Kvitova also having to withdraw from the event in somewhat ironic and cruel circumstances.
