The curious chemistry between Carlos Alcaraz and Dan Evans produced another mini-classic on Monday.
Meeting in the third round of the Shanghai Masters event, the two again brought the best out of each other, producing a dazzling array of rallies before the world No 2 came through 7-6, 6-4.
Just as when they faced off at the US Open, the level of tennis and handskills on show was often of mesmeric quality.
Evans was given a rousing ovation as he left the court, ‘It was one of the toughest matches I’ve played so far outside of the Grand Slams,’ Alcaraz said.
‘Every time I face Daniel it’s a tricky match. I think both of us played a high quality of tennis and I’m really happy to get through.’
