Youri Tielemans is already unhappy with Unai Emery over his lack of game time at Aston Villa, just four games into the latest Premier League season.
The Belgian joined the Villains on a free transfer after leaving relegated Leicester City in the summer.
But the 26-year-old midfielder has started just one game for his new club so far this season, in the second leg of the Europa Conference League against Hibernian, with the tie comfortably settled in Aston Villa’s favour after a 5-0 win in Scotland a week earlier.
Now on international duty, Tielemans revealed ahead of Belgium’s qualifier in Azerbaijan on Saturday that he was less than impressed with his lack of action at Villa Park so far.
Belgian outlet DH reported that Tielemans said: ‘The situation is not pleasant. I told the manager [Emery] that I came to Villa to play. He understands me, but at the moment, he prefers to play with his two midfielders from last season.

The Belgian midfielder has started just once for Villa since a free transfer from Leicester City
‘He told me that soon the matches will come one after the other and I will have more playing time. I know this answer doesn’t help me move forward, but what should I do? Whenever I have an opportunity, I want to take it. So far, I have started once, in the Conference League.’
With Tielemans called in front of reporters at the pre-match press conference, he is expected to start Belgium’s game in Baku on Saturday, before they host Estonia in another Euro 2024 qualifier on Tuesday evening.
Aston Villa have won two and lost two of their opening four Premier League games, leaving them 10th in the table at this early stage.
Their fixtures will come quickly though, with the third round of the League Cup to come, and their Europa Conference League group stage to contend with as well, after beating Hibs 8-0 on aggregate in the qualifying stage.
Aston Villa were drawn with Dutch side AZ Alkmaar, Polish high-flyers Legia Warsaw and Bosnian club Zrinjski in Group E of UEFA’s latest club competition.
Tielemans was one of five new attractions to join Aston Villa this summer, with Pau Torres, Moussa Diaby, Nicolo Zaniolo and Clement Lenglet all coming to Villa Park.
