This year sees Manchester City try to defend their crown and claim a historic fourth title in succession. Pep Guardiola’s all-conquering City, who also won the Champions League and FA Cup last season, will have to see off Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool and the rest to claim an unprecedented sixth league title in seven years.
Meanwhile Luton Town are making their first appearance in the Premier League, having risen from non-league in an incredible decade of progress. They followed Championship winners Burnley and second-placed Sheffield United in earning promotion to the top flight.

Thanks to a 4-0 defeat of Crystal Palace last week, Newcastle United have now won four of their last five Premier League fixtures, keeping a clean sheet in the course of each victory. While that run has helped the Magpies into the top six, they suffered a setback in midweek when losing to Borussia Dortmund on home turf – their first Champions League defeat for over 20 years. A 1-0 reverse to the Bundesliga club also ended Newcastle’s eight-game unbeaten run in all competitions and a five-game winning streak at St James’ Park.

By seeing off 10-man Bournemouth last week, Wolves extended their Premier League unbeaten run to four matches – the Midlands club’s longest streak without defeat since January 2022. As a result, Gary O’Neil’s men have moved well clear of the relegation zone and into mid-table. However, Wolves have taken only four points from a possible 12 at Molineux before today’s game, in which they meet a club they have beaten just twice in 16 Premier League meetings.
