What Erling Haaland has said about Martin Odegaard is good news ahead of Arsenal switch

Arsenal boss Arteta provides Martin Odegaard transfer update

Arsenal are understood to be close to agreeing a loan move with Real Madrid for Martin Odegaard following the departure of Mesut Ozil to Fenerbahce. The Norwegian has failed to fulfill his huge potential just yet, but Erling Haaland’s comments spell good news for the Gunners.

Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland’s comments about Martin Odegaard spell good news for Arsenal ahead of a proposed loan switch.

Real Madrid playmaker Odegaard is set to join the Gunners on loan for the rest of the season following the departure of Mesut Ozil to Fenerbahce.

The La Liga club are believed to be keen to sanction the move, even blocking a return to Real Sociedad to allow him to try his hand in the Premier League, according to reports.

Odegaard has not had the impact many thought he would at Real, failing to nail down a regular starting spot under Zinedine Zidane.

The 22-year-old joined Los Blancos in 2015, and was tipped to become the best player in the world after lighting up Norwegian football as a teenager.

And while he has not gone on to have the glistening career many anticipated, international team-mate Haaland appears to rate him very highly.

The Dortmund striker bagged a hat-trick during Norway’s 4-0 win over Romania in the UEFA Nations League back in October, with two of his goals set up by Odegaard.

And Haaland admitted that he anticipated his relationship with the midfielder would only get better, as well as both of their abilities.

Haaland said: “Yes, I can simply split it (the hat-trick) in two (and share with Odegaard). It’s nice to play with Odegaard.

“It will only get better in the years to come. We are still young.”

Arsenal legend Martin Keown revealed his intrigue at the potential signing of Odegaard, but admitted that it may cause Real concern for current Real loanee Dani Ceballos.

Arsenal star Willian ‘is lucky no fans are allowed inside stadiums’

“I’m assuming Arsenal are all over it,” Keown told talkSPORT. “He [Odegaard] brings that quality into the midfield. It’s an area Arsenal need to strengthen.

“Does that mean Ceballos will go? He’s on loan as well. Is he going to get football?

“Real Madrid may be concerned, he hasn’t played that much so far.”
