FC Copenhagen boss Jacob Neestrup has hit out at his side’s performance despite their dramatic 4-3 victory over Man United on Wednesday.
The Danish giants beat Erik ten Hag’s side in a chaotic encounter that saw them recover from two goals down to level the tie, before scoring twice towards the end to turn around a 3-2 deficit into a 4-3 win.
The victory at the Parken Stadium – which was helped by Marcus Rashford’s first half red card – saw Neestrup’s side rise to second in the group. They face a crunch tie away at Bayern Munich later this month, before entertaining Galatasaray in a winner-takes-all clash in December.
Copenhagen’s win over United came after they narrowly lost the reverse fixture 1-0 when Andre Onana saved Jordan Larsson’s last-gasp penalty, but despite exacting revenge on United, Neestrup felt his side have been much better on other occasions.
‘For me as Copenhagen coach, it was by far the weakest performance in the group stage so far,’ he said.

‘So if you take the picture today we maybe didn’t deserve three or even one point.
‘But if you take it over four rounds then it is very very well deserved that Copenhagen is in second place because I believe we have been the second best team, not today, but over four games.’
Along with the defeat at Old Trafford, Copenhagen’s first victory in the group came after they also narrowly lost 2-1 to Bayern Munich and drew 2-2 away at Galatasaray, meaning they had been involved in three tightly-fought contests.
Ahead of Wednesday’s clash, Neestrup had outlined his feelings of injustice after the loss to United back in Manchester last month.
The 35-year-old had said: ‘For me, it’s not about hope. For me, it’s about strong belief that we can get a result.
‘The penalty miss in the fifth minute of extra-time was what was it was, but it was a totally equal game.
‘I was a little bit surprised about some of the questions I got after the game from English journalists in terms of that we were quite tough to break down.
‘The talk we had at half-time in our dressing-room was that we thought it was tough to break the opponent down. In that picture I think the game over 95 minutes was totally equal.’
