Jose Mourinho was confirmed as the new manager of AS Roma on Tuesday. The Portuguese arrives at the Stadio Olimpico in the summer having signed a three-year deal to replace the outgoing Paulo Fonseca.
It is his first job in football since his sacking at Tottenham just last month and signals Mourinho’s first return to Italy since a hugely successful spell with Inter Milan between 2008 and 2010.
It already appears that he could be preparing to raid his former club for summer recruits with Football.London suggesting that the 58-year-old could make a move for Spurs’ Erik Lamela and Lucas Moura.
Each of those would certainly be intriguing signings for the decorated Portuguese.
Firstly, should he make a move for Lamela, it would also signal the winger’s return to Italy after a number of years away.
The north Londoners originally signed the Argentine from Roma in 2013 where he was fresh off the back of a brilliant 15-goal Serie A season.

He was signed in the hope that he could be a replacement for the outgoing Gareth Bale, who was set to join Real Madrid.
It has not quite panned out that way for Lamela however with him having struggled for fitness and consistency – never managing to score more than five league goals in a season.
Mourinho had previously highlighted his admiration for the 29-year-old but admitted his injury issues had continually got in the way.
He said: “A good Lamela I love. You are right. He is the kind of player that I like very much.

“The first thing I like about him is he wants to play. He wants to assume responsibility. He never hides. He wants the ball.
“He’s a little bit sometimes chaotic, but it’s a positive reason to be chaotic because it’s ‘I want to play, I want the ball, if the ball is not arriving to me I have to arrive to the ball.
“I love Coco. Of course when I arrived, his history of injuries was incredibly negative. Was very, very, very hard. That’s the truth.”
Meanwhile, it has been suggested that Mourinho could also be interested in Lucas Moura.
The Brazilian has also struggled for consistency in his time in north London but is thought of fondly by the club’s supporters for the hat-trick he scored against Ajax to guide Spurs through to the 2019 Champions League final.
He has made 155 appearances for the club so far, scoring 32 goals.
