Trippier left England squad for betting hearing amid potential six-month ban

Kieran Tripper left the England squad for a personal hearing over the FA charge against him for breaching betting regulations.

As revealed in May, Trippier is under investigation relating to betting patterns surrounding his move from Tottenham to Atletico Madrid in July 2019.

Tripper expressed his innocence at the time, insisting: "I have fully complied with the FA’s investigation over the past several months on a voluntary basis and will continue to do so.

"I want to make it clear that while a professional footballer, I have at no stage placed any football related bets or received any financial benefit from others betting.”

Tripper and fellow full-back Ben Chilwell left the England squad ahead of their UEFA Nations League clash against Denmark at Wembley on Wednesday night.

And The Athletic report Trippier's withdrawal is related to the hearing – where he could be hit with a six-month ban if found guilty.

When asked about Trippier ahead of the Denmark game, Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate lamented yet another "distraction". He said: "There's not much I can say about that.

Trippier played left wing-back as England saw off Belgium – the team currently ranked No.1 in the world – at Wembley in the Nations League on Sunday.

Strikes from Marcus Rashford and Mason Mount secured the three points which leaves England top of the group at the halfway stage of the qualifying phase.
