Tottenham have reportedly moved to an advanced stage in negotiations to sign Napoli striker Arkadiusz Milik. Spurs’ season got off to a disappointing start at the weekend as they lost 1-0 to Everton.
It was further evidence that Mourinho needs to bring in another forward to give him another option.
Erik Lamela and Steven Bergwijn were his two forward options on the bench against Everton, neither of whom naturally play through the middle.
The problem for Tottenham in past seasons though has been finding a striker willing to accept they will come in as a back-up option to Harry Kane.
The 27-year-old has established himself as one of the world’s best strikers over the past few seasons.

But he has also missed a large number of games through injuries, leaving Tottenham short up front.
Mourinho is desperate to rectify that this summer and he came out last week insisting he is confident a deal will be done very soon.
“I want a striker,” he said.
“But I want to make it very clear that the club – if you want to call it the club or the structure above me – knows I need a striker and they also want a striker.

“I believe we will get a striker, I honestly believe so.”
And it appears as though they’re top choice is Napoli forward Milik.
According to Football Insider, Tottenham are willing to offer him a contract worth £23million over five years along with a £5m signing-on fee.
Talks are said to be at an advanced stage regarding personal terms, but a fee between Tottenham and Napoli could be far away from being agreed.
The Serie A side want up to £30m for the Poland international, who has just one year left on his contract.
The report goes on to suggest Tottenham may well wait until January to sign him on a pre-contract agreement.
It means there could well be a stand off in the final few weeks of the transfer window with Napoli unlikely to let the striker leave for free next summer.
But Milik isn’t Tottenham’s only target this summer with Torino striker Andrea Belotti also someone the club are interested in.
