Tottenham fans have reacted angrily to their side’s Champions League exit after Antonio Conte’s men were held to a goalless draw by AC Milan on Wednesday night.

Needing to overturn a 1-0 deficit from the first leg, Spurs failed to fashion many clear-cut opportunities, and their task was made even harder when Cristian Romero was sent off in the second half.

There were boos at the final whistle as Tottenham’s European exit was confirmed, and supporters on social media were also clearly unhappy with that they had seen from their team.

Their have been calls for the board to step aside in recent weeks, while Antonio Conte’s future is also up in the air as he continues to be linked with a return to Italy.

Fans feel the board, Conte and the players all need to take their share of the responsibility for Tottenham’s lacklustre display.

There have been calls from Tottenham fans for chairman Daniel Levy (right) to leave the club

‘Board! Manager! Players! Hang your heads in shame!!’ one supporter wrote on Twitter.

Another fan summed up Spurs’ performance in four words, labelling it: ‘Inept. Gutless. Spineless. Useless.’ They also called for Conte and chairman Daniel Levy to leave the club.

Conte returned to the touchline for the first time in three weeks after spending some time in Italy recovering from gallbladder surgery.

He did not escape the wrath of some fans, though, with one questioning why he brought on Davinson Sanchez for Dejan Kulusevski late on when Tottenham were desperate for a goal.

‘Inexplicable, unjustifiable decision to substitute a centre back on for a forward with 9 minutes left in a match we have to score in. Enough is enough. Conte out, and to be honest until he’s gone I’m out too,’ they declared.

Tottenham made the Champions League on the final day of last season, pipping north London rivals Arsenal to fourth spot.

They have another battle on their hands to make the top four this term, and after failing to win any of their last three games, one fan is unconvinced Spurs will be getting back into Europe’s elite competition any time soon.

‘Season over. Embarrassing, we don’t deserve absolutely anything,’ they insisted.

‘If the manager needs to lose his job I want the majority of these players to go. Who knows when we’ll play another Champions League tie.’

Tottenham’s motto is ‘To Dare is to Do’, but the side lacked urgency in their search for a goal against Milan, with the Italian giants hardly tested throughout the 90 minutes.

One fan suggested the players and Conte need to be reminded of what it means to represent Tottenham following their dire showing.

‘That performance was shocking. No desire, no creativity and no passion,’ they wrote.

‘I think the players & manager need to read the club motto as it’s been forgotten!’
