With Raphael Varane only fit for the bench and Harry Maguire out injured, Jonny Evans starts his first Manchester United game since 2015 after his surprise re-signing with the club over the summer.

Evans will partner Victor Lindelof at centre-back, with Diogo Dalot at right-back and Sergio Reguilon on the left of defence as Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia all remain out.

Ten Hag confirmed Martinez is out ahead of the clash at Turf Moor, saying: ‘He’s injured…another one.’

With Mason Mount also out of the squad due to a thigh problem and Sofyan Amrabat only fit for the bench, Hannibal Mejbri starts in midfield.

On United’s injury crisis, Ten Hag told TNT Sports: ‘It’s about the players who are available and we have to do it with the players who are available. We don’t make an issue of it. We have to win.’

Mejbri starts alongside Scott McTominay and Casemiro in midfield, with Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford and Rasmus Hojlund ahead of them.

‘With Hannibal and Scott McTominay, we want to bring energy to the midfield, some power and we think we need that,’ Ten Hag told MUTV.

‘He [Evans] will bring organisation, communication and he’s composed. He knows the job, he knows exactly what to do and he’s had enough games. He comes in and he will do the job.

‘Everyone knows when you arrive here [Burnley] it’s a tough place to be and it’s down to us to fight.’
