Sven Botman posts meeting with agency on Instagram amid Liverpool transfer rumours

Liverpool: Does Klopp need to sign defender in January?

Liverpool transfer target Sven Botman has held a meeting with his agency amid reports he could move to Anfield this month. Lille centre-back Botman is a reported target for Jurgen Klopp to help solve his injury crisis at the back. And the 20-year-old has dropped a hint he could soon be on the move.

Botman posted a boomerang video on his Instagram story this afternoon, where he was sitting in an office.

He tagged his agency, Muy Manero, in the story as well as posting a red heart emoji and a handshake emoji.

Liverpool fans took to social media after seeing the post and some were excited that a move could happen.

“Sven Botman on Instagram…is he on the move?” tweeted one fan.

“Not to speculate but Botman just put this on his Instagram story. That’s a sports management company, it’s happening,” wrote another.

Botman only joined Lille from Dutch side Ajax last summer for a fee of around £7million.

But he has seemingly impressed people at Liverpool in just 10 Ligue 1 appearances.

Liverpool are short of centre-backs, with all three senior options out due to injury.

Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez are likely to miss the majority of the season with serious knee problems, while Joel Matip is out for up to three weeks with an adductor problem.

Transfer expert Duncan Castles claims Botman would be a considerably cheaper option for Liverpool than the likes of RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano.

And Castles says discussions have already taken place between Liverpool and Lille over a deal.

“What they’re working on according to my information is a deal for a player who would be significantly cheaper,” Castles said on the Transfer Window podcast.

“That is Sven Botman, who is in his first season at Lille, transferred from Ajax in the summer for an initial €8m (£7m). He has been outstanding at Lille.

“My understanding is that Lille would be willing to sell the player probably for twice and a little bit more what they paid Ajax for him in the summer.

“You’re looking at a 20-year-old just turning international defender who has fantastic statistical attributes that you can get for a price way below any similar talent in the English league.

“Liverpool have done this kind of thing before, it’s a good fit for their strategy. My information is that they have been calling and speaking to Botman’s agent.

“Botman’s agent likes the sounds of the conversations and believes there is a strong possibility that they will decide to make an offer for the player in January.”
