An incredible Harry Maguire stat has left Manchester United fans slamming the treatment of the much-maligned defender.
Maguire has regularly been ridiculed by fans at both club and international level, as well as falling down the pecking order under Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford. However, the former Leicester and Hull defender’s resilience has been rewarded.
Maguire turned in a man of the match display against another of his former clubs, Sheffield United, as Manchester United edged to a 2-1 win. The England centre-back was even serenaded with a chant from the travelling fans while the Blades supporters also gave him a friendly welcome back to Bramall Lane.

Following the match, an eye-catching stat was highlighted by Sky Sports which showed United had won 15 of their 16 games over the last 12 months with Maguire in the side – a win rate of 94%. In contrast, United had won just 22 of 42 games without Maguire – a win rate of just 54%.
That prompted one fan to remark on X (formerly Twitter): “Utter joke how he’s been treated.” Another said: “People have a go at Maguire for playing poorly, then when he plays well it's, ‘only against Sheffield United’. The guy can't catch a break. I have said previously on here that Maguire shouldn't be in the England team because he never plays for Utd. Now he is, he's trying to make a difference and show he should be included. Fair play to him.”

However, some fans and journalists have pointed out that Maguire has often come into the side against inferior opposition over the last year. One fan said: “All due respect to Sheff Utd, wait until he has had a run of games v decent opposition and then the usual mistakes/weaknesses get exploited. Happy to sit on fat contract as a golden child of [Gareth] Southgate means untouchable for Eng squad place.”
However, Maguire even earned praise from Ten Hag after the Sheffield United game. The Dutchman said: “Harry Maguire is playing like we want him to play, dominating his opponent. I am happy with his performances.
“He deserved MOTM award. He played a really good game, and read the game very well. I am pleased for him.”
