Alan Shearer has admitted that he has some sympathy for Erik ten Hag due to the uncertainty over Manchester United’s ownership.
Ten Hag’s side suffered a 3-1 defeat at home to Brighton on Saturday to add to the negative situation surrounding United.
The manager’s decision to take off Rasmus Hojlund was met with boos from some United fans and the club have had to deal with off the field issues, with Antony and Jadon Sancho not currently involved with the squad.
Despite the criticism ten Hag has faced, Shearer stressed that the United boss needs to know whether or not the club is for sale.
Speaking on Match of the Day, Shearer said: ‘I do have a little bit of sympathy with Ten Hag with all the serious external issues. Everything eventually filters down on the pitch, is it for sale or not for sale. He needs to know what is going on, the fans need to know.’

United fans expressed their frustration that the sale of the club has yet to materialise
The Glazer family said in November last year that they will consider selling the club but ten months later a sale has yet to materialise.
It was reported earlier this month that the Glazers will take United off the market.
However, insiders in both the camps of Qatar’s Sheikh Jassim and British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe said they had not been informed of such a conclusion.
United have lacked conviction in many of their performances this season and were beaten 3-1 away to Arsenal prior to the international break.
Against Brighton, goals from Danny Welbeck, Pascal Gross and Joao Pedro saw United fall 3-0 behind before Hannibal Mejbri scored.

Ten Hag has also had to deal with off the field issues involving Antony (L) and Jadon Sancho (R)
Sancho has been banished from first-team training at United after refusing to apologise to ten Hag following their falling out.
Ten Hag is still angry over Sancho’s social media post that effectively branded him a liar for saying the player was left out of the squad to face Arsenal because he had not trained well.
In addition, Ten Hag stated that he has ‘no idea’ when Antony will return to the club.
Antony is currently spending time away from the club while he addresses allegations of domestic abuse. The player denies any wrongdoing and has not been arrested or charged.
