Scotland captain Rachel Corsie claims it is “disrespectful” to question her players’ integrity ahead of the Nations League clash against England. The defender has hit back at reporters who questioned the Scottish side’s approach with Olympic qualification on the line.
Scotland host Sarina Wiegman’s England at Hampden Park on Tuesday evening. The Lionesses need a high-scoring victory to give themselves a chance of finishing top of their Nations League group.
That would also keep alive hopes of Team GB qualifying for next year’s Olympics in Paris. England are the nominated qualifying team for Great Britain, with players from Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland also eligible to feature.
A heavy defeat against England would continue to give Scotland players a chance of going to the Olympics, leading to suggestions that they could allow Wiegman’s side to win. But Corsie has come out fighting, insisting it is “outrageous” to question the integrity of her and her team-mates.

Corsie said: “In all honesty I’ve seen a lot about that, I think a lot of people outside have spoken about it, and truthfully I think it’s so disrespectful.
“To have played for my country for as many years as I have, to know the girls that sit in there, to know the ones who want to be here, who are injured and can’t be here, I think it’s absolutely outrageous to question anyone’s integrity and I think it’s a huge insult to us.
“I understand why the question is being asked but, for us, the motivation is playing for your country. It’s difficult to understand if you’ve never experienced it but when you have experienced it, you don’t need extra motivation.
