Saka created more chances than Grealish as Gareth Southgate gives verdict

Bukayo Saka's impressive rise continued as he came on to put in a decent showing against Belgium for England on Sunday evening.

The Arsenal man was thrust into action in the 38th minute after Ben Chilwell was forced off the field through injury.

With the scoreline already at 2-0 to the Belgian side, Saka had a tough night ahead of him. The Arsenal man, though, put in an admirable performance.

But following the game, much of the attention was directed towards Jack Grealish's performance. Despite the defeat, the Aston Villa man showed his class with flicks, winning individual battles and his range of forward passing.

England boss Gareth Southgate praised the midfielder at full-time but also, unprompted, brought up Saka's name.

On Grealish, he said: "I saw what I knew I would see in somebody with bravery to play. I think he took the ball in tight areas, his techniques were good.

"He took players out of the game. We know he win a lot of free-kicks which of course he did. I just thought he was outstanding. He should be absolutely delighted with the way he played."

The Three Lions boss then added: "I thought also Bukayo to come into a game like that as a young player, in a difficult moment, against a very strong opponent, I thought he too showed a lot maturity, a lot of quality on the ball.

"There were some huge positives for us."

Southgate was right to bring Saka up because it turns out no player for England created more chances than the Arsenal man.

Despite being brought on just before half-time Saka created three chances, more than the highly praised Grealish.

An impressive feat by the 19-year-old and one that was noticed by his manager.
